Orton-Gillingham Practitioner Individual: Literacy Remediation, All Ages

 

This option is for students looking for additional individual support with literacy remediation. The OG approach is a direct, explicit, multi sensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy.(https://www.ortonacademy.org/resources/what-is-the-orton-gillingham-approach/ )

The Orton-Gillingham approach involves direct teaching of the National Reading Panel’s “The Big Five” components for effective literacy instruction:

  • Phonological/Phonemic Awareness

  • Phonics (word study)

  • Fluency

  • Vocabulary

  • Comprehension

Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing: Private Consultation

 

This option is for parents of children who are d/Deaf and hard of hearing looking for additional DHH-specific support for their child from a certified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

Support may include:

  • Language skill development (reading, writing, oral language)

  • Auditory skill development

  • Self-advocacy and self-understanding as related to hearing

  • Speech articulation skill development

  • Transition support (Kindergarten, Secondary, Post-Secondary)

  • Collaboration with school staff on child’s goal development

This list is not all inclusive and support is tailored for each individual child’s needs.

Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing: School District Consultation

 

This option is for school districts who may have one or more students who are d/Deaf and hard of hearing and are seeking out additional DHH-specific support for their child from a certified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (i.e. to meet B.C. Ministry of Education requirements for 1701 Category F - Deaf or Hard of Hearing).

Support may include:

  • Language skill development (reading, writing, oral language)

  • Auditory skill development

  • Self-advocacy and self-understanding as related to hearing

  • Speech articulation skill development

  • Transition support (Kindergarten, Secondary, Post-Secondary)

  • Collaboration with school staff on developing and implementing student’s Individual Education Plan
